When Things Go Wrong

Have you ever had a situation where everything just went wrong? Did it ever seem like things were just...impossible? Well, recently I have had a few things go wrong, but in the midst of it, God taught me a few things and I want to share them with you.

1) Hope thou in God. Over the past few months, this really resonated with me. From sermons to artistic Bible journaling sessions, that phrase kept popping up over and over. My hope isn’t in man; they’re gonna let me down sometimes. But God is faithful.

2) God is the God of the impossible. With man, my situation looked hopeless. My friends and family all wondered what in the world I was going to do. But I did my best to trust God. A man stood in the pulpit this week and reminded me that God is the God of the impossible. He can do what man can’t.

3) Praise is what gets you through the hard times. In the Bible, there were situations where men of God were surrounded by the enemy. It looked bleak for that army. But when God commanded them to stand still, they began to praise God. When praise went up, God’s power came down and defeated the enemy.

4) In the midst of the hard times, you learn who and what is important. In light of eternity, things are just that...things. Material possessions can be replaced, but family and friends cannot.

5) Sacrifice is the greatest of loves. Like Jesus, sometimes we must give up the things we love most in order to ensure things get done that need to get done. Is it your money? Is it your time? What is it that you love most?

6) Let God fight your battles. He often asks us to stand still; why? Because the battle belongs to the Lord. We often feel weak and helpless because we try to stand in His way and do the things that only He can do.

So, when things go wrong, remember that God is God. His plans are to give you hope and a future. His ways are not our ways. God doesn’t bring us to a trial and leave us there. If He brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
