For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:16-17
The reason Jesus came goes all the way back to the very beginning, right around Genesis 3-4. The first human beings, the ones that God intended to be perfect and pure, messed up pretty bad. They disobeyed. This sin then led to a massive domino effect throughout history. This sin is why Jesus came; to pull us out of that nasty, sinful nature and give us a new life that is completely different than the life we inherited from Adam and Eve.
Everything we read in the Bible, from prophetic passages to battle zones, points to Jesus. When God inspired men to pen the words of Scripture, He wanted us to see that our sin was not a hopeless cause. Yes, we mess up. Yes, we disappoint Him. Often we neglect our quite times for weeks on end, and then we end up feeling bad about ourselves thinking that God will no longer have anything to do with us. But the fact remains that the purpose of Christ’s coming the first time was so that bridge between God and ourselves could be repaired.
In the book of Romans, it’s clear that God’s love outweighs anything we could ever do to disappoint Him. As believers, we are called to live in such a way that reflects that love. For unbelievers, it’s quite the comfort. Jesus made a way for us to be assured of our path to heaven. It’s through His sacrifice that we can access God through prayer. It’s through His blood that we can be clean from sin. It’s through the power of the cross that God can and will accept us as His children.
Now the question is, do you have that assurance? Are you aware of the immense love that God has for you? Did you know that He died for you, and for every person that has ever walked the face of the earth? He was ready and He was willing. All because He wanted a relationship with His most valuable creation.
I invite you to examine your heart. Is there anything stopping you from enjoying the full potential of a relationship with Jesus? If so, ask for His forgiveness. If you’re not a believer, I strongly encourage you to reach out to the Lord and trust in Him. That’s why He came; to be your Savior.
