In the age of technology, it’s no surprise that we have access to nearly everything at our fingertips. Fast food? Got it. Shopping? Got that too. Need to make a medical appointment? Someone’s probably got you covered. But what about Bible study? Is there an app for that? Of course there is, and I’m going to give you a few suggestions whether you’re a beginner or wanting to dive a little deeper in your faith this year.
Pro Tip: Please do not let these apps substitute for your actual Bible. If you don’t have a physical copy, find a local church or Christian organization that will provide one for you for free.
YOUVERSION
YouVersion is probably the most popular app out there for Bible study in general. It offers features such as the Bible itself (helpful if you forget to bring your Bible to church), devotionals and reading plans, a prayer request section, and the ability to highlight and annotate your favorite verses.
ESWORD
While Esword is not available for mobile devices, it is available for desktop use. It is downloadable right off their website, and very easy to install and begin using. Esword is perfect for the serious Bible student that wants to get out of a surface level study. With Esword, you can view parallel versions of the Bible, simultaneously look at commentaries, and do word studies with concordances and dictionaries.
BLUE LETTER BIBLE
BLB has everything you need in one place. Paired with your own Bible, BLB is a, pardon the pun, heavenly resource that provides a unique study experience. Dedicated believers will enjoy a rich abundance of study material that just keeps on going. It moves from surface level experiences toward a deeper, meatier understanding of what God wants us to know. From commentaries to sermons, you’ll never be bored with BLB.
BIBLE HUB
Bible Hub is similar to BLB, but it’s a lot less daunting and is easy to use for beginners. Navigating is extremely user-friendly. It allows you to do topical studies, read a quiet devotion, and get deeper with sermons from men of God who have spent a lot of time with the Word. Bible Hub lets you take your studies wherever you go, and everything is at your disposal when you need it.
BIBLE PROJECT
The Bible Project has been around for years, but they’ve recently stepped up their game. Originally a website with simple walk-throughs of the Bible and its themes, in early 2022, they released a brand new app available for all mobile devices. Its features include video overviews for each book of the Bible, discussions of biblical themes and lessons, and a beta version of several courses that you can take to broaden your understanding of God’s Word. The one unique aspect that I really enjoy is the artistic approach; the videos are created comic-style, and it’s easy to follow and get a better grasp of what’s going on.
BBN RADIO
Both an app and website, BBN reaches a massive audience around the world to spread the gospel. It takes a more old-fashioned approach; the great hymns of the faith can be heard on the streaming feature as well as sermons. The radio programs have their own assigned times each day. They have Christian articles on their blog that will encourage your faith to grow. BBN also offers a few free classes that are easy to take on your own time.
