Be Still My Soul - Part 3

KEY VERSE – Psalm 46:10

Be still, my soul; the hour is hast’ning on

when we shall be forever with the Lord,

when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,

sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.

Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past,

all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

The final verse of this hymn proclaims the ultimate victory for the believer. These days, I have absolutely no doubt that Christ will take His bride home very soon. He said in His Word that terrible things would happen before His coming. He said that nations would rise against nation, nature itself would groan in longing, and great disease and famine. Much more is said about it, but these things are happening. We need to be watchful. We need to be waiting.

Oh child of God, the verses to this hymn clings to the very hope we have in Christ. The writer calls us to worship. It calls us to be still in His holy presence.

We can learn a lot from Mary, who sat at the feet of Jesus, wanting only to feast upon the goodness of His grace. We can learn a lot from Moses, who wanted to see the face of God. We can learn a lot from David, whose sole desire was to dwell in the house of the Lord forever. All of those required being still and slowing down. They were used to the hustle and bustle of life. They were used to the demands of family, friends, and entire nations (in the cases of Moses and David). But yet, they still found time to be still.

When Christ returns, we will have no more worry, sorrow, or sadness. As my pastor likes to say, our ailments and afflictions cannot follow us there. There will be no more heart attacks, strokes, or wheelchairs. No more cemeteries, funeral homes, or hospitals. How wonderful will that be!

Our ultimate hope is to see Jesus face to face. We will meet Him in all of His glory. Are you ready?
