7 Reasons To Be Thankful For God's Word

This week is the first post in a four-part series on faith-based thankfulness. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I thought I’d give you a few things that I’m thankful for, and hopefully it will inspire you to do the same.

Today I am thankful for God’s Word and the ability to meditate on it. This past Sunday, I was able to sit down quietly at church and think of reasons why I’m thankful for this specific thing, and the results of meditating on it. In response, I journaled those seven reasons and now I’m going to share them with you.

1. Our learning and understanding of the ways of God are increased. The more we spend time in the Bible, the more we will grow to learn and understand who God is and His plan for our lives.

2. People will notice a difference in the way we live. God’s Word has the supernatural ability to change us. When we allow those changes to take place, people will start to wonder what makes us so different. That’s when the door can eventually be opened to share the gospel.

3. It increases our ability to trust God in the bad times. Time after time, the Bible reveals God’s faithfulness. It reveals His trustworthiness. It gives us reason after reason why we can trust Him, even when things don’t go our way.

4. We are comforted and encouraged. In the book of Psalms, David praises God over and over again for His Word. Why? Because it consistently encouraged him. It consistently comforted him. It gave him the strength to face whatever trial came his way. But that can’t happen for us unless we open our Bible and communicate with the Father.

5. It instructs us into godly attitudes and humility. No other book in the history of mankind has the ability to do such a thing. It molds us into who God wants us to be. It humbles and restores us back to our Heavenly Father.

6. It increases our desire for more of God’s Word. Do you ever notice as a baby grows, the more he or she desires heavier foods? In their early years, we can only feed them through a bottle. It’s the same with the Bible; the more we grow in Jesus, the more we are going to crave the meat of God’s Word.

7. It encourages us to act on sound doctrine. Without sound doctrine, you can be guaranteed to mislead and misguide a lot of people. The Bible teaches us to not only learn it, but to do it.
